Erie Indemnity reported nearly unchanged third-quarter earnings, as higher management-fee revenue was offset by increased commissions and weaker investment results. Net income for the first nine months of 2026 rose 3.4% from a year earlier.
The company also said it would host a prerecorded webcast on October 30 to discuss the results.
Key details
- Third-quarter net income was $182.0 million, or $3.48 per diluted share, compared with $182.9 million, or $3.50 per share, a year earlier.
- Nine-month net income increased to $512.8 million, or $9.80 per diluted share, from $496.0 million, or $9.48 per share, in the same period of 2025.
- Third-quarter income before taxes was essentially flat at $232.8 million. Operating income was $207.4 million, down $1.5 million, or 0.7%, from a year earlier. For the first nine months, operating income rose to $578.3 million from $559.5 million.
- Policy issuance and renewal management fees increased $21.7 million, or 2.6%, in the quarter. Fees for administrative services rose $0.9 million, or 4.7%.
- Commissions rose $24.0 million, primarily because of higher agent incentive compensation and growth in direct and affiliated assumed written premiums.
- Other costs moved in different directions. Non-commission expenses for policy issuance and renewal services fell $1.1 million overall: lower acquisition and underwriting support costs partly offset higher personnel, sales and advertising, and technology expenses. Technology costs increased $6.9 million, reflecting technology initiatives, software impairments, depreciation and amortization, and cloud usage. Administrative and other costs declined $5.5 million, mainly because of lower credit-card processing fees.
- Income from investments before taxes was $19.9 million, down from $21.6 million in the third quarter of 2025. Net investment income increased to $25.4 million from $21.0 million, but the company recorded $5.4 million in net realized and unrealized investment losses, compared with $1.3 million in gains a year earlier.
- The prerecorded webcast was scheduled for October 30, 2026, at 10 a.m.
Overall, the quarterly figures show higher management-fee revenue alongside increased operating costs and investment losses. Over the first nine months, growth in operating income and net income was stronger than the near-flat third-quarter comparison.
